Auburn Hospital is a 120 bed acute care health facility, including a 10 bed HDU, on the eastern border of West Sydney LHD. It is about 11 km from Westmead Hospital. Auburn Hospital provides services in Emergency Medicine, General Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Special Care Nursery, General Medicine and Cardiology.
The Anaesthetic Department provides services for about 6,000 surgical procedures a year, with a large proportion of day surgery patients, and 1,300 deliveries a year in the birth unit. Auburn is a trauma bypass hospital with trauma patients from the area usually taken direct to Westmead.
The Anaesthetic Consultants are all VMOs, and most have other appointments at tertiary hospitals such as Westmead, Nepean, Concord and Liverpool. Auburn is accredited for specialist anaesthetic, surgical and obstetric training.
Auburn is affiliated with the University of Sydney as a teaching Hospital, and is also associated with Notre Dame University as a teaching hospital for medical students.
